Dear Sir:
Though I haven’t always agreed with some of your positions, I have always respected you as a dedicated public servant, public voice in our country.  I cannot express to you how shocked or rather appalled, I was to hear your statement about the necessity of a “civic literacy test” for Obama voters.  How are statements like that even possible in the year 2010 by any educated person?  Unfortunately there are many people in this nation, especially those in the lower socioeconomic levels that lack proper education.  I can bet those individuals could be evenly divided between the political parties.  I certainly heard supporter of Sarah Palin interviewed during the last presidential campaign that would have difficulty spelling or reading “vote”.  Your comment was incredibly insensitive and bigoted.  This is a time to raise the level of public discourse, not bring it down.  I hope to hear a public apology for such callousness.

Sincerely,
Maureen Bauer
