Subject: Questions
Tom,
Haven't heard from you about the question I asked yesterday, so here it is
again (in case my message somehow didn't reach you):
"Would you please cite specific examples that lead you to believe that
Barack Obama is a 'socialist idealogue'? You made this claim in your address
to the Tea Party convention, and I assume you have some basis for the
assertion. I read your short bio on the Wikipedia website. I know you're an
intelligent person with a formal education.
That's why I assume you have a basis for the claim. Please share it with
me."
I've been doing a little more reading up about you, and came across the
following quote, attributed to you:
"This is our culture - fight for it. This is our flag - pick it up.
This is our country - take it back."
This confuses me a little. There is some meaning here that I'm failing to
grasp -- something that you seem to not be saying in a very direct way.
Sorry, I don't mean to be dim. Do you mind if I ask a few more questions?
1. Who is the "us" in "our culture" and "our country"? Do mean all
Americans? Do you mean just some Americans? Which ones?
2. Why do we need to "take [our country] back"? Has someone taken
it from us? I mean, some person or persons who aren't Americans?
Who do I need to "take it back" from?
3. As far as "our flag - pick it up" is concerned, I'm sure you'll be
pleased that I did just this when I served in the United States Air Force
for more than ten years. Why didn't you serve in "our"
military when you had the chance? There was a war in progress at the time
-- Vietnam, in fact -- and you would have had an ideal opportunity to "fight
for it".
4. I have read that you were feeling depressed at the time of the Vietnam
War, and were able to arrange for a draft deferment. Would you support a
military member if he or she became extremely depressed about the conflicts
in Iraq or Afghanistan, and asked not to be deployed to either theater, or
to be released from the military completely?
Thanks again Tom. I'll be waiting for your answers.
Best,
Sam
